Jomama spills the beans!

Meet the lovely Josephine Jones “Jo” or “Jomama”

face-make-art-sophia-bI love to teach because: It’s a wonderful feeling opening up new options to people and hearing their excitement.

Attending an Art Retreat is like: a sleep away camp for creative adults!

When I attended my first Art Retreat, I : was blown away by all of the amazing creativity surrounding me.

Who do you creatively relate with? Anyone with passion for creative things.

The best part of living a creative life is: the energy I feel.

What is the worst part of living a creative life? It is sometimes hard to get other things done.

What advice would you like to share? Life is short, make time for the things you love.

The best advice I have ever received is : do what you love to do!

‘Being creative’ means : you’ve been given the ultimate gift!

CHECK OUT Jo’s workshops!

Which Artist inspires you the most & why?: I’d have to say Susan Lenart Kazmer. She’s passionate & had fresh ideas. If your talking old school, then Picasso.Jo-resin-bezel-neck-wrap-2s

What are your favorite tools, instruments, materials to use and why? My favorite tool (besides my hands) is my torch. Favorite materials are ‘found objects’.

What would you love to try next, creatively? Welding!

Where do you find your muse/inspiration? Mostly nature, but I’d have to say everywhere.

Do you sell your work? If so, where can your fans seek you out? Website: www.shopjomama.com, GAB Studio – Miami, Pink Slip Threads – Pampano Beach FL.

Name one of your favorite food, song, poem, book and/or movie of all time? Favorite food – SUSHI!

What was your scariest creative adventure? Painting a mural on someones wall. You can’t help but think … what if it is awful and 8 feet high!?Jo-concrete-class-1sml

The thing I love most about my life is : that I am happy 🙂

What makes your heart swell with joy? That Amazon box at my front door!

Three words to describe my work are: organic, bohemian, asymmetrical.

What creative tool can you not live without (so-to-speak)? My hands!

My favorite ‘pretend’ curse word is : I don’t pretend   😉

WORKSHOP “Concrete, Steel & Color” by Josephine Jones

Saturday May 24, 2014 ~ Into the heART RETREAT ~ Harrison, BC

Students will have a blast with me learning to mix, mold and color concrete! Once our molds have cured, we will play with cold enamels and patinas to add juicy colors. Then we will entrap our creations by forming a steel frame and assembling our finished treasures into keepsake pendants to wear with pride.

BIO:

Josephine Jones “Jo” or “Jomama”

Mostly self-taught, Jo is a mixed media artist who’s been creating her entire life. Part environmentalist, part fashionista, she started her creative path with sewing and painting. With her love for metal, her path veered towards jewelry, and her recent pieces are a compilation of soldering and cold connections using recycled cans.

She is drawn to discarded items radiating nature’s patina. Crazy about color and texture, and taking it to the next level, she incorporates soldering, casting, fold forming and enameling to add layers to her designs.

With an organic bohemian vibe, her one of a kind works include jewelry and accessories made from found, re-purpose and salvaged stuff. Jo also crafts personal family heirlooms into wearable memories.

She teaches locally, is on the Ice Resin® design team, was an ambassador for Bernina, and will be teaching at Into the heArt art retreat in 2014. She’s been featured in Daily Candy, Celebrate Green Eco blog, Antisteez, OM times online and is being published in Jewelry Affaire magazine in January 2014.
